Future Perspectives for Sydney Anarchism: An Open Discussion

2pm, Sunday 27 April at Jura.

The success of the bookfair demonstrated how great an interest in anarchism there is among many people in this city. As a follow-up to the bookfair, Red & Black Forum is holding an open discussion at Jura for people to contribute their views and discuss ways forward for future anarchist action and activities.

Future Perspectives on Sydney Anarchism", was decided on at short notice to replace the previously announced speaker, Brian Laver, who for medical reasons was unable to do his talk. The resulting discussion on "Future Perspectives..." was informal, wide-ranging, and not directed towards the making of any specific decisions. Topics discussed included future plans for the Jura space, educational activities at Jura and Black Rose, male domination in the anarchist milieu, and pessimism and optimism re prospects for anarchist advance in Australia.

Although time-constraints and the informal nature of the discussion meant that we barely scraped the surface of the topics touched on, the meeting was constructive for many of the participants in that it gave scope to a free expression of viewpoints conducive to self-clarification and mutual understanding on a number of important topics. It also pointed to the need for further discussion.
