 Hip-Hop and Sydney's Western Suburbs - Meguel D'Souza (Urban Expressions, 1988)

Jura Collective (and myself) do not necessarily agree with all of these writings. These are intended to start the brains ticking on the pertinent issues. Also, search "popping" on youtube!

Safer communities are radical!!

All welcome.
We are going to have the first meeting of new gender-inclusive collective,
Thunder, at 5pm on 15th Feb 2007. Thunder is for anyone interested in redefining relationships, unlearning
rape culture and supporting survivors/anyone affected by sexual assault.
This collective will be part of a national network of groups working on
radical community responses to sexual assault... Meetings will be roughly every three weeks at Jura Books: http://jura.org.au/ An idea is that the collective will perform 2 functions.
1. to facilitate discussions, raise awareness, develop resources,
preventative actions etc.
2. to act as a forum to negotiate support for survivors and people
affected by sexual assault Specifically so far some of our ideas are to:
- develop safer spaces policies for community events
- provide info and resources to community
- educate ourselves: discussions and skill sharing around topics such as
sexual health, co-counselling, language, active listening etc
- help develop national network of groups working on radical community
responses to sexual assault
- develop and maintain resource list of accessible/radical community
services in NSW
- facilitate workshops
- make email list for collective or anyone interested in collective - support survivors and those affected by sexual assault. this will be
different for each person and totally dependant on context. it could
include but is not limited to listening; providing safe space, space to
speak and be heard; providing info & help figure out options; assistance
negotiating space; representation; support for supporters etc. it is really important that we look after ourselves in doing this work. we
will be really flexible with meetings, and not put unrealistic
expectations on ourselves, have proper debriefing etc. please pass this on. please feel free to pass on...

Some anarchist jokes

Q. What does a trotkyist taxi service look like?
A. They tell you where you're going and how to get there.

Q. What does an anarchist taxi service look like?
A. The driver-passenger relationship represents an essential hierarchical relationship which must be broken down through long co-operative discussion and decision-making. Once all the occupants of the taxi are on equal terms, and those external to the taxi are aware and comfortable with their freedom to associate or disassociate with those within the taxi, discussions of possible destinations can begin in earnest. ...

TINA Stall

Hey all,

Your dear author and Mr Rocks trekked down to the This Is Not Art festival on Sunday and did have a very lovely time. Arriving at about 1pm, we made no hesitations to set up a stall and start disseminating artefacts of cultural revolution. I'm very happy that one of the first items to go was the latest Slit magazine!

We did run into some strife when, very sleepy, we tried to get on a train at 9.20pm. The last one leaves Newcastle at 9.10pm! The next train was due at 2.40am, and we were way too tired to go back and par-tay it up. So, there ensued several attempts to sleep in inadequate clothing in really cold spots - a park, the train, then Gosford station (where the next train ended up). At Gosford, we spend 2 hours in a platform lift because it was out of the wind.
