Forums, Conferences and Struggles

Greetings Jura friends and supporters,

The mining tyrants have their grubby paws everywhere! They fight meagre attempts to redistribute a bit of wealth. They buy and bully media to entrench their destructive ideas. They exploit workers and their families. They cry foul at environmental protection. And now, they even corrupt Australian football.

How did this happen and what can we do about it? Why is the 1st of May the International Day of Worker's Struggle? Check out some of Jura's upcoming events and get involved with the good fight.

@ Jura Books this Sunday 22nd April at 2pm.

Red & Black Forum is a new series of introductory talks and discussions at Jura on different aspects of anarchism.

The first talk in the series is:

Anarchist ideas and methods of organisation have been influential in the Occupy movement, both here and overseas. How relevant have such ideas and methods been in Occupy Sydney? How do anarchist ideas contribute to understanding and developing the aims of Occupy? An active participant in Occupy Sydney will introduce a discussion of the role of anarchism in the Occupy movement and what that might mean for the growth of genuine grassroots democracy.

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th April.
11am-6pm both days @ Jura Books.

For workers who are fed up with their jobs. For workers who want to know how to organise for fairer wages and better conditions. Hosted at Jura Books. Various workshops around the idea of workplace organising, direct action, workers control, etc.

Friday 27th to Sunday 29th April

@ University of Western Sydney, Parramatta & NSW Parliament House Theatrette.

The 2012 national community climate action summit is a great way to meet people, build skills and get involved in campaigns to bring about a shift in the climate debate. Hundreds of activists from all over the country will come together in what will prove to be an unmissable event.

"SEDITION" edition 2 - Call out. Get writing!!

Email the Jura collective if you would like to submit an article. Sedition is an exciting new Australian anarchist journal, a mutual collaboration between three anarchist collectives in Australia - the Melbourne Anarchist Club, us folk from Jura, and Organise - the Adelaide anarchist communist group. This project is a constructive medium for discussing the ways forward for anarchist groups and anarchism in Australia - importantly, both in theory and praxis. We aim to produce thought-provoking literature that challenges the established order.

It is available online at www.anarchy.org.au
