DECOLONISE D.I.Y (DO-IT-YOURSELF) PUNKFEST
Friday June 8 – Sunday June 10, Marrickville & SYDNEY
From the organisers
: The queen’s birthday weekend marks Australia’s compliance with the Commonwealth. What a perfect time for an anti-authoritarian anarcho-punk festival! We do not respect the Australian (or any) state, its affiliation with the Crown, or its forceful occupation of this land. We feel this is a good opportunity to come together and talk back to the oppressing forces in our lives. The fest incorporates three punk shows in DIY/underground venues, and a weekend of workshops (held at JURA Books on the Sunday).
Workshops held on Saturday and Sunday are catered events and include: Postcolonial Rage, Solder School (DIY workshop with presentations), Self Defence, Addressing White Privilege, Street Art, Suicide Prevention, Zine & Craft Fair plus more. For a more comprehensive look at the festival timetable please visit decolonise.wordpress.com or www.facebook.com/pages/Decolonise-Festival-Sydney/277349712327078 No justice, no peace!
FILM NIGHT: IF A TREE FALLS- A STORY OF THE EARTH LIBERATION FRONT (ELF)
Thurs 14th of June 6pm at Jura Books.
Jura film nights are back by popular demand. This really is an amazing film!! Released in 2011 it delves deep into the Earth Liberation Front, a radical environmental group that the FBI called America's 'number one domestic terrorist threat.' It is a story of radical activism, passionate politics, charges of terrorism and activists turned state informers! It was nominated for the Academy Awards in ‘best documentary feature’.
MUSIC GIG: TERM FOUR, COLD YOUTH, CLIPED WINGS & SAFEKEEPING
16th of June 6-10pm. Jura Books
Some hardcore bands, some acoustic music and a vegan bake sale!
BLACK ROSE LIBRARY VISITING JURA’S LIBRARY!
Working bee Sunday June 17th 2pm at Jura Books.
Our good friends at Black Rose Books in Newtown have lent us some of their massive library while they are exploring new directions. Jura Books has offered to house their immense collection of books and zines upstairs in our Fanya Baron library in the meantime. This presents an exciting opportunity to peruse the library’s shelves in what was already an insanely vast array of anarchist related texts. A working bee will be held on the 17th of June at Jura Books to commence this project.
RED & BLACK FORUM THE ART OF REBELLION: ANARCHISM IN MUSIC & LITERATURE
Sunday, 24 June, 2pm @ Jura Books
A new series of monthly talks and discussions at Jura on different aspects of anarchism. The June session is on: THE ART OF REBELLION: ANARCHISM IN MUSIC & LITERATURE. Featuring a film about the anarchist ideas in the fiction of Ursula LeGuin and other writers, followed by discussion introduced by Sid Parissi. Plus a talk on Anarchist and other political music, in the English speaking world, with examples.
"SEDITION" edition 2 - Call out. Get writing!! Email the Jura collective if you would like to submit an article. Sedition is an exciting new Australian anarchist journal, a mutual collaboration between three anarchist collectives in Australia - the Melbourne Anarchist Club, us folk from Jura, and Organise - the Adelaide anarchist communist group. This project is a constructive medium for discussing the ways forward for anarchist groups and anarchism in Australia - importantly, both in theory and praxis. We aim to produce thought-provoking literature that challenges the established order.
Edition 1 is available online at www.anarchy.org.au
